Onderwerp: Should parents be more involved in helping with homework?

When both parents have to work- so it's a struggle to have enough time to really focus on students who struggle. My daughter who's ESL (reading and writing) can take up to 4 hours going through homework that is supposed to last 30 mins. To make matters worse she's in a general education 3rd grade class with a 1st grade reading/writing level so she has become more and more discouraged with school. She may not have the typical background (she was born and raised in China and has only been in the US for 1 year) but her struggles are not unusual. Kids who struggle with course content (for any reason) are simply left behind and ostracized in class for it...and it's up to parents who often have a full load themselves to make up the difference and help. Some help addressing services to buy essay, some spend time after work on explaining homework to their kids. .
Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a happy ending for many of these children, especially now that Trump's Education pick is calling the shots. How many private schools would choose a struggling student? How many struggling students will face a defunded public school?
